1959 Cadillac Model Identification Instructions Method #1: Using the Body Name Plate The "Body Name Plate" or "Fisher Body Tag" is attached to the top surface of the left air duct cover, under the hood, near the cowl. This small metal plaque is stamped by the factory with information about your Cadillac. A typical 1959 Cadillac body name plate is pictured below.
The name plate carries the 6 digit style number. The first 2 digits represent the year, "59." The last 4 digits indicate the vehicle style. Use this style number along with the table below to identify your model. On the body tag above, we see "STYLE 59-6229." Using the table below, we know that this is the 1959 series sixty-two six window sedan. Method #2: Using the VIN# The "VIN" (vehicle identification number) is a 9 digit number that can be found several places on 1959 Cadillac's.
The first 2 digits of the VIN indicate the vehicle year, "59." The 3rd digit is a letter, called the "Body Code." Use the table below to identify your model using the body code. The final 6 digits represent the sequence in which the vehicle was completed.
